Stockholm – our capital city with millions of dreams
Stockholm – our capital city with millions of dreams, expectations, and ambitions. We work for everyone living here today and in the future. Now we are looking for you who want to think big, new, and differently with us – for the people of Stockholm.
The Northern Inner City district consists of the central parts of Stockholm, Norrmalm, and Östermalm. Here we work to provide our 155,000 residents with the best services in areas such as preschool, social services, elderly care, and urban development. We welcome you who want to make a difference for the residents of the Northern Inner City.
Welcome to us
The Security and Safety Unit within the Quality Department works to ensure that Stockholm is a safe city for residents and visitors.
The Klara area, which includes Sergels Torg and the Central Station, is a priority area for safety and place collaboration. Since 2016, we have collaborated with the police, security guards, and social services to reduce crime and increase safety in the area.
We are now looking for 3 field workers for the Klara area in the heart of Stockholm. The assignment focuses on contact and relationship-building work with children, youth, and young adults through outreach work conducted exclusively in public outdoor environments. You will be part of an engaged team consisting of two parallel operations:
- Klaranavet: our information center where youth coaches work and where young people can turn for help.
- Outreach operations: where you will work directly in the area to meet young people where they are.
We offer
We are a newly started operation in active operation since April 2025. With us, you have the opportunity to enter at an early stage and help shape work methods and direction moving forward. The work is present and physical; you will be where things actually happen, in the public space, combining long-term relationship building with urgent and situational interventions. This means a varied and meaningful assignment where no day is like the other.
You will work in a context where collaboration between different community actors is crucial and contributes to concrete social benefits in one of Stockholm's most central and complex areas. Here you will have the opportunity to work closely with other professions and develop your skills in a context where collaboration is essential.
With us, you will receive:
- engaged and experienced colleagues with broad expertise in outreach work and safety-creating interventions
- wellness allowance
- work clothes adapted for work in public outdoor environments
Read more here about the benefits you receive as an employee of the City of Stockholm.
Your role
As a Klarafältare, you will actively engage in outreach work in the Klara area, which is largely a risk environment and open drug scene. You will actively seek out young people, build relationships, and act as a safe, boundary-setting adult. The role includes being aware of and managing situations where there is concern and collaborating closely with the police, security guards, and other actors in the area. You will participate in joint collaboration platforms, including at Sergels Torg and Stockholm Central Station, and contribute documentation and your knowledge to local situational reports and cause analyses.
Since the assignment largely takes place outdoors and involves many movements between different locations, in all weather conditions, the role requires good physical ability to perform the work sustainably.
Your skills and experience
To succeed in the role of Klarafältare, you need to have documented and current experience of outreach work in public outdoor environments. The assignment is conducted exclusively in public spaces, such as streets, squares, and parks, and differs from traditional fieldwork in that it does not include school visits, group activities, long-term parental contacts, or individual-based interventions.
To succeed in the assignment, you therefore need to have:
- Documented and current experience (acquired in recent years) of outreach work in public outdoor environments, such as streets, squares, or parks
- Experience working with youth and young adults
- Good ability to work in a team and in close collaboration with other actors
- Good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written
- Relevant education and/or documented professional experience that the employer assesses as equivalent (e.g., social worker, social pedagogue, leisure leader, security guard, or other related professional background)
It is advantageous if you have:
- experience working in risk environments
- knowledge of Motivational Interviewing (MI) and low-arousal approaches
We will place great emphasis on the following personal competencies:
You should have a strong desire to work operationally in the public outdoor environment. In the role, you need to be resilient to handle the rapid changes in pace. You are a stable, safe, and present adult who acts selflessly and with high professionalism. You meet young people with empathy and you dare to set clear boundaries even in challenging situations.
Other
We are looking for 3 Klarafältare at 75% with the possibility of increased working hours.
The work is done according to a rolling schedule and includes day, evening, weekend, and holiday shifts. The work involves many movements outdoors in varying weather conditions and therefore requires good physical ability.
As a Klarafältare, you will collaborate closely with youth coaches, and you will also be part of the administration's crisis support.
If you proceed in the recruitment process, we will:
- request an extract from the criminal record
- ask you to present a complete diploma or other relevant documentation that verifies education and/or professional competence
Your application without a personal letter
This recruitment is conducted without a personal letter. In assessing your application for this role, we will only consider your CV and a number of questions you will need to answer as part of your application. You do not need to prepare a personal letter.
We wish for you to answer concretely and briefly to the questions as your answers will form the basis for our continued selection work.
The City of Stockholm works with competency-based recruitment aimed at considering each person's competence and thus counteracting discrimination.
